The following is my algorithm to derive/generate the category URLs from the current category titles and compare them to the current category URLs to check for problems in wrongly shortening to 60 characters or other problems.

remove diacritics in titles

remove (….) from title, e.g. "Venues In Northern Ireland (GB-NIR)" ==> "Venues In Northern Ireland"

remove "De|Di|Of|At|In <venue part>" from title, e.g. "De Paris", "Di Verona", "At San Jose", "Of Freehold", "In Worcester"

remove "(" and ")" from title, eg. "Stone Pony (The)" ==> "Stone Pony"

for "relation" category swap "name" with "surname", eg "Scialfa, Patti" ==> "Patti, Scialfa"

if event title has 4 (or 5) parts remove the second (and third), more specific part; third part for Australian events e.g.:


Crystal Ballroom, Hotel Diplomat, New York City, NY            ==> Crystal Ballroom, New York City, NY

Rockefeller Center, GE Building, Studio 8H, New York City, NY  ==> Rockefeller Center, New York City, NY

Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia ==> Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane, Australia


remove pattern before first "," in title when same pattern exists after "," e.g.:


Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, CA                <== remove Oakland                ==> -Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, CA

Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA          <== remove Los Angeles            ==> Memorial Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA

change "." and "'" to " " in title, eg.

Born In The U.S.A. ==> Born In The U S A

I'm On Fire        ==> I m On Fire

afterwards downcase title to create URL

replace " " with "-" in generated URL

replace/remove special characters and character combinations in generated URL

handle category subtypes (multi event "a|b|c" date prefix, and multi title pages "-2|3" at the end of the URL, ignore them)

prepend "<category name>:" to generated URL

cut generated URL after 60 chars

compare resulting generated URL with current BruceBase URL and report if different
